Author Dawn Fuller continues her Looper series with "Looper: Stop Child Abuse" (published by Trafford Publishing), the new children's story about a brave caterpillar and his friends, designed to educate young readers about abuse and urge them to come forward.
Looper's friend, Rosa, has been sitting on a big secret. Finally, she admits to Looper and their friends Julia and Woolly Bear that her father has been abusing her. Rosa seeks the advice of the Wise Old Worm, who praises Rosa for finally telling someone her secret. He gently explains the importance of coming forward about child abuse and reminds Rosa that she is not alone. Armed with the Wise Old Worm's encouragement, Rosa tells her teacher, school counselor and a friendly policeman who help her escape her abusive father and reunite with her mother.
The 2011 report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says that 681,000 children were victims of abuse and neglect in 2011. Fuller hopes to combat child abuse by arming children with information at a young age and empowering them. "I want readers to know to speak up if they or someone they know are being abused and that life will get better by doing so."
"Looper" has been selected for inclusion in the Gold Seal program, which offers recognition of excellence in writing and overall potential.
