David Glaser Launches New Book on American Foreign Policy

This volume is a study of Robert Lansing's career as the American secretary of state from 1915-1920 and his working relationship with Woodrow Wilson. The work is especially significant in examining Lansing's efforts to guide American diplomacy during the period of the struggle for ratification of the Treaty of Versailles in the United States Senate. Of particular interest are Lansing's efforts to bring the United States into the war on the side of the Allies and his attempts to force Wilson to compromise during the Treaty of Versailles negotiations with the United States Senate. In all of his efforts, when a direct approach to the president failed, he resorted to indirection and indiscretion.

About the Author
Throughout his academic career at the State University of New York, the University of Maryland and Skidmore College David Glaser has been a keen student of American diplomatic history. Holding his doctorate from the University of Idaho his dissertation concerned Woodrow Wilson's intervention in Mexican affairs from 1913-1916. Professor Glaser has now retired and spends half the year with friends in upstate New York. The rest of his time he resides with his family in Florence, Italy.
