Author Dave Faber and Robert McGehee were meant to be together. Less than two years after their first date, they were married. Life goes happily for the couple until the unexpected changed everything. McGehee was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. True to their love, they fought the battle of life and death together. The experiences they shared are etched in detail in "Cancer: A Love Story" (published by iUniverse). This memoir provides readers with inspiration, motivation and helpful insights on caring for a loved one suffering from cancer.
"Cancer: A Love Story" tells the journey that McGehee and Faber trudged through esophageal cancer. From the perspective of a caregiver, Faber details McGehee's condition from diagnosis through treatment. He recounts the relentless hospital visits for chemotherapy, radiation and surgery and how his beloved responded to these procedures. He details the specifics of treatment and what happens to patients in different types of hospital units. More importantly, the book speaks of love, intimacy, survival, faith, recovery and affirmation as it shows how genuine 'good' could come out of difficult circumstances.
Moving and insightful, "Cancer: A Love Story" not only offers helpful, firsthand information on care giving and support but also touches social issues concerning the LGBTQ community - gender preference, marriage and family structure. It draws courage from love to reveal a one-of-a-kind spiritual journey. Through this book, Faber hopes to inspire others to persist through the tumults of life with faith, determination and gratitude for time spent with those we hold dear.
