Dave Crawford Releases Satirical Novel 'The Deadly Serious Republic'

The Deadly Serious Republic introduces two remarkable characters, Max and Memie. Max has an Irish father, Harry "Dingle" Bellman, and Latin American mother, Izzia. He grows up in desperately poor circumstances, but he is a very bright, level-headed young man with natural social skills. Memie comes from an enormously wealthy background but is orphaned at the age of twelve. She was sent off to the Defrugals Graduation School for the Super-Rich. She hates it and rebels against all and everything. Being taught that God is good and communism is bad, she chooses to take an opposing view. She is fearless in the face of danger and spends much time looking for revolutions of one sort or another.

Max thinks Memie politically naive but, as friend and bodyguard, is forever trying to pull her back from the brink. He is her saviour, the knight who is always there to save the day. By nature, she is difficult and neurotic but she shows her caring side from time to time. Throughout, there is an underlying sexual tension in the air, and the two are torn between acting upon it and let everything remain uncomplicated. In the end, will Max's efforts come to nothing?

About the Author
Dave Crawford was born in England and migrated to Australia at the age of seventeen. His early employment included five years on a sheep station. Later, he was employed as a field assistant on the rice research station at Humpty Doo outside Darwin. While there, he restarted his school studies, battling with his childhood dyslexia. In time, he gained a place in university and later added a Master of Science degree to his BSc. In the meantime, he was married, started a family, and worked as a technical officer in agriculture research. Moving on, he gained a teacher's qualification and taught school science. His first teaching position was in the town of Hay, not far from where he mustered sheep all those years earlier. He has retired from teaching, but at the age of seventy, he still works in a high school.
