He became a private citizen and lands a job as manager for Mr. Thompson's Chicken and Biscuits. Mr. Harry Thompson Sr., its owner has six restaurants in the area. Real became the general manager on the branch at the corner of Fifth and L in Washington, DC. One time, a burglary took place in the restaurant and Marlo Butler, a street smart kid who he helps to become his assistant manager becomes the prime suspect. Johnny does not believe that Marlo is involved. He made his own investigation and solves the mystery behind the crime. With his knack for solving crimes, Mr. Thompson helped Johnny start his own private investigation business and marked the beginning of Johnny Real, the private detective.
