Since 2002, over 300,000 men, women and children have been murdered in the mass genocide taking place in Darfur, according to bashirwatch.org. Survivor Bahar Arabie hopes to renew interest in the tragedy in his new book, "Darfur: Road to Genocide" (published by AuthorHouse).
"I am a genocide survivor," writes Arabie, "The horrible things I saw in Darfur in the years 2003 and 2004 as a result of genocide and human rights abuse, which continues until this day, motivated me to write the book, in hope that it will help create more awareness to the situation in Darfur."
Arabie grew up in Darfur, but left before the terrors began. He returned in 2003 and fought against the military. He fled Darfur in 2005, but the genocide continues in Darfur today. The Sudanese president, Omar al-Bashir, has an outstanding arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity and war crimes, according to the Sudan Tribune.
"[The book] is a personal memoir, highlighting the struggle towards better political and social conditions for Darfur."
