Bennett Burgess was excited to learn that the story his dad has told him for months is becoming a book. Bennett's dad is Matt Burgess, the author of an innovative children's book called "Skylar and George Washington", who released "Brilliant!" on Kickstarter. The new children's book achieved its crowd-funded goal on November 22, which will send it into publishing.

In 2013, Burgess traveled to East Asia to adopt two toddlers with special needs. The life-changing experience of adoption coupled with the challenges of parenting inspired an interesting story. The allegory reminds him of the hope that his children will become better versions of himself. The story has excited his children while it encourages him as a father. Now, he is hoping to give the experience to other parents in the form of a new children's book.

"Brilliant!" follows a speckled egg through twists and turns as it arrives at a strong nest in a strong tree in a strong forest. A speckled bird hatches and develops into a red bird more brilliant than the birds that foster it. The story ends on a high note of hope as together with another brilliant red bird they find a strong tree in a strong forest, build a strong nest and wait for their speckled egg.

The story was designed to be enjoyed by all parents and all children, but adoptive and foster parents will empathize more intimately with the symbolism. It will specifically remind them of their journey without being painfully obvious to their children. For kids it is a meaningful adventure loaded with whimsical charm.

Burgess launched the project on the crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter. It immediately received the distinction of a Kickstarter Staff Pick. In crowdfunding a financial goal is established then financial backers are recruited. If the goal is met, then backers will receive rewards in the form of a special gift. In this case the gift is autographed first edition copies and a memory matching game. The campaign was successful, which means Bennett will soon be able to read a book with his dad about a familiar story.
