DEMAND BY TERROR is Released

NEW YORK, May 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ More than two years ago the militant group Boko Haram kidnapped a group of young schoolgirls in Chibok, Nigeria. Finally, two of those missing schoolgirls have been found. The recovery of the two women is one of the first real signs of progress in Nigeria's ongoing fight with Islamist militancy. It reignites a global conversation on how to manage the important security and humanitarian issues that are still plaguing the nation.

In response to the on-going terrorist threats in Nigeria and elsewhere, Nigerian native and global terrorism expert, Abayomi Nurain Mumuni offers insight into how to manage the threats that the Boko Haram militant group is still placing on the nation.

Mumuni has written a timely book, Demand By Terror, that comprehensively analyzes terrorist negotiations. He notes there are different kinds of terrorist groups, from ecoterrorists that destroy property in the name of protecting animals or the environment, to homegrown right-wing terrorists such as the Ku Klux Klan, who advocate for white supremacy, and ISIS, a religious-based group led by an ideology that demands death to those who oppose it.

"The type of terrorist group determines the type of negotiation to engage in," says Mumuni, "No nation wants to look vulnerable or weak and give in to terrorist demands, and indeed, all nations publicly vow not to deal with terrorists, but the way to resolve some of the violence will not come from military action alone."

His earlier book, Global Terrorism and its Effect on Humanity, presented an overview of what terrorism is, with the aim of educating the public about this global phenomenon. His new book goes further. We are confronted, in Demand By Terror, with the fact that demands are tactics commonly used by terrorists to coerce governments into giving in to their objectives. Terrorist demands are often difficult to meet, if not impossible. While terrorists may think that governments have no choice but to respond to their demands, the advantage of options often tilt the pendulum in favor of authorities.

Mumuni has run for the senate and presidency in Nigeria and has been politically active for many years. He also holds numerous certifications and degrees in national security, intelligence, and terrorism profiling from schools in the United States, Ghana, Israel, Nigeria and the U.K. He brings a global perspective to his new book Demand By Terror.
