Author D.D. McDonald has experiences as a minor league baseball player. His frustrations with how unrealistically baseball book and movies portray the lifestyle inspired him to tell the true story and depict what the gypsy life of chasing a dream is actually about in his publication, "Clubhouse Confessions" (published by Xlibris).
This compelling novel reveals the life of old Jim "Buckethead" Miller, a thirty-year old who was once a hard throwing big league pitching prospect. Presently, he is a career minor leaguer attempting his third comeback from yet another devastating knee injury. Losing his once dominant fastball ability that got him to that point, he barely wins the final spot on the pitching staff of the Class AAA Tacoma Loggers. That is when a baseball old-timer, the club's pitching coach, teaches him a highly illegal pitch, one that could get him suspended permanently from baseball. Miller dreads the day when the Loggers' major league affiliate releases him from his contract, thus ending his dream and making him find a career outside baseball in a brutally obscene location, the real world. Will he come to understand that there is such thing as life outside baseball?
Skillfully crafting a storyline to show minor league baseball with genuine realism, McDonald also managed to inject a heavy dose of humor to his work. "Clubhouse Confessions" tells readers how difficult it is for players to reach the big league without superstar ability and the huge personal sacrifices that minor leaguers have to make to keep their individual pursuit alive.
