Cora Mack Debuts SHAW

Local nurse Cora Mack debuts her novel Shaw, the first in a series of mysteries that delve into the historic African American neighborhood in Northwest Washington, DC. The fiction novel brings to life the energy and complexity of 1950s Shaw against the backdrop of greed, betrayal and murder, when a prominent local figure is killed in his own home and the only hope for finding the perpetrator lies in the hands of a young Black journalist. Set in 1956 in the historic Shaw District, the book pulls from the past to tell the story of Easton Priest, an up-and-coming African American reporter looking to create a future for himself and his fiancé. When death descends upon the neighborhood and with only four black cops on the force, institutional racism stands in the way of uncovering the killer. Priest plunges into the core of the district and risk his own life to seek the elusive truth.

About the Author

Mack, who grew up in Shaw through the 1950s, is a member of the renowned Bethesda Writer's Center and has been working toward publication for fifteen years while raising children, working full time, and completing a Master's degree.
