PHILADELPHIA
Author Ronald A.G. Grant's new illustrated book, "Benjamin Breadman: Rise of the Dough" uses a loaf of bread to break the mold of a typical cartoon character.
Grant, an animator and comic book artist, tells the story of Benjamin Breadman, a single parent and owner of Breadman's Bakery and More, whose life antics teach readers about appropriate ways to deal with situations involving bullying and selfishness.
"Benjamin Breadman's day-to-day life addresses themes and issues that families experience," Grant said. "This book offers an opportunity for parents and children to approach these subjects together."
Inspired by his religious background, Grant designed a cartoon of a loaf of bread because it is traditionally representative of the body of Christ. Each page of Grant's book includes a Bible verse that relates to the cartoons as a way for kids and adults to learn from scripture.
