Arwen Elys Dayton's upcoming young adult novel, SEEKER, may not hit store shelves until 2015, but Columbia Pictures already has plans for its big-screen adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The first in a trilogy from Delacorte Press, SEEKER is officially described as "the story of Quin Kincaid, a young girl who'se been put through years of brutal training for what she thinks is the noble purpose of becoming a revered "Seeker." Only when it's too late does she discover she will be using the ancient artifacts and sacred knowledge to become an assassin. From a remote estate in Scotland, to a bustling, futuristic Hong Kong, Quin tries to escape her legacy, only to find she can't evade it."

Mark Gordon (SPEED, GREY'S ANATOMY) and his studio have officially signed on to adapt the novel.

"Arwen has created a cast of characters and world that transcends the Young Adult genre and offers a rich cinematic opportunity," Hannah Minghella, president of production at Gordon's studio, said. "The best science fiction and fantasy stories are a metaphor for a grounded universal truth and Arwen perfectly captures the emotionally complex awakening all young people have that the world is not black and white, parents are not perfect and ultimately we all have to be Seekers of our own truth."

Dayton's first novel, RESURRECTION, shot to the top of Amazon's electronic charts. SEEKER is set to be her first young adult literary foray.
