According to the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation, learning music benefits other non-music related subjects and skills.

A proponent of lifelong learning, literacy consultant Clarice Davis' new book, "Wilhelmina's Butterflies" shows children and families everywhere the value of music and encourages an appreciation of the arts.

"It is extremely important to foster literacy, as well as understand our world through the eyes of children," said Davis.

"Wilhelmina's Butterflies" follows 8-year-old Wilhelmina during her first concert at Symphony Hall. When mysterious "butterflies" almost stop her from attending, Wilhelmina is able to face this important day with the help and support of her best friend, Penny.

"As children experience emotions for the first times they are often unequipped to deal with those feelings in a healthy way," said Davis. "I hope this book sparks conversation between parents and children regarding courage and perseverance."
