After a serious car accident, painter and author Christine Kowal was left unable to raise her arms above her waist; she was no longer capable of painting the large 5x9 canvases she was accustomed to working with. "Adam & Eve & Heart Energy" (published by Balboa Press) represents the collection of artwork Kowal created throughout her recovery and the love story that accompanies the pieces of work.
"I had always wanted to do a book about Adam and Eve. I had always loved their story, and felt that there were a few things I wanted to explain," Kowal says. "As I completed each piece I would put it up on the wall. And eventually the entire wall became the drawings for my Adam & Eve book, to which I would add the words 20 years later."
Kowal explores the carnal undertones of Adam and Eve's story, touching upon puberty, sexuality, love and the role that God plays in the creation of pleasures.
"God would never have thrown his children out of the garden except for good reasons. And what they learnt after they ate from the forbidden tree was one of the most beautiful things in the world," Kowal explains. "Had God not wanted us to have pleasure from our bodies, he would not have given us bodies that give us pleasure."
