In "Zak Makes a New Friend: Zak's World Book One" (published by AuthorHouse), Melanie M Rose pens a playful tale of friendship.
Inspired by Rose's nephews, the colorful children's book teaches lessons in inclusivity.
"It became a way to teach children at an early age that people with disabilities have something to contribute," explains Rose, "and it teaches that sometimes what others perceive as a disability isn't really an obstacle for that person at all."
In "Zak Makes a New Friend," an alien has crash-landed and needs help to fix his spaceship so he can go home. But the alien is weary of accepting help from Zak and his friends because they don't look like the other aliens he knows.
"In the end," shares Rose, "he learns that you can't always know everything about someone by just looking at them; you have to get to know people before making judgments."
