Twin lion cubs, Theo and Kayla, learn about the importance of helping others in author Irene J. Colvin's debut children's novel, "The Lion Pride" (published by WestBow Press).

"It doesn't matter how young or how old you are," Colvin says, "It doesn't matter how big or small you are. We all have something to contribute."

The overall theme of "The Lion Pride" involves neighbors and friends coming together as families and reaching out to less fortunate neighbors in need, whether due to illness or unfortunate circumstances, according to Colvin, who learned about helping others from years of fundraising and hands-on assistance to neighborhood programs.

"We need more commitment as neighbors to help others, instead of isolating ourselves," Colvin says, mentioning Lions Club International, in which she has been active through Lancaster Lions, celebrates 100 years of community service. "They are the largest service group in the world, and there are Lions Clubs in every state, in the U.S. and in almost every country throughout the (world)."

About the Author
Irene J. Colvin is a retired paralegal who has been writing poems and stories since grammar school. As a proud mother and grandmother, she wanted to write a book to inspire families to get involved in helping their neighbors. Both she and her sister were born in Germany and became naturalized citizens of the United States in 1957. Her family was always involved in helping neighbors in times of need, by cooking, doing home repairs, assisting with gardening and nurturing neighbors to health. She is also the author of "My Dozen Angels," due for release in March or April.
