In her latest children's book, "Storms" (published by AuthorHouse), author Maria Wolf teaches readers an important lesson about resiliency and adapting to survive.

"As a South Jersey resident, I was deeply affected by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy. As a mother and teacher, my heart broke for the people of Newtown, Conn.," Wolf writes. "Although I know there is no simple remedy for that kind of heartbreak and shock, I was looking for a way to remind all of us to turn to the eternal presence of nature and its continual resilience."

The main character is an old, wise owl who sees the reality of accepting the things in life that one cannot change, and the importance of being resilient and changing the things one can. A resounding example of this resilience comes from another main, unspoken character - the big, beautiful tree in the forest who survives storms.

"I hope this book brings some insight to those whose lives have been devastated," Wolf writes. "Also, because all the 'beings' in the story are from New Jersey, I want it to serve as a reminder of the beauty still in our state."
