Author, educator and physician Charles Howard reaches out to doctors just starting their careers and provides a wealth of sage advice in his new book, "So You're a Doctor Now" (published by Lulu).
Written in the form of advice from father to a son who has recently qualified as a doctor, this book is also aimed at all young doctors, as well as patients who have had bad experiences with conventional medicine and medical personnel.
Howard shares stories from his own life, some medical and some personal, and discusses the characteristics of a good doctor. His main focus is on improving relationships between doctors and patients, and the book identifies potential problems and offers practical solutions.
"The increasing technological side of medicine is submerging and often drowning out the human side, the doctor-patient relationship," Howard says. "It is important that newly qualified doctors are aware of the reasons for this and don't let it happen."
