Charles Hays Announces the Release of LOOKING AFTER LARRY

Charles Hays and his uncle, James Homer Hounshell, made an agreement before going off to war - if one of them died the other was entrusted with writing their story. After World War II, Hays received his uncle's journal. Using the journal, he was able to make good on their agreement and has completed "Looking after Larry: A World War II Story" (published by Trafford Publishing) in his uncle's honor.

Readers will join James, a staff sergeant, as he serves below an under qualified second lieutenant. With each combat situation that the company encounters, these two argue and bicker over every course of action never seeing eye to eye. Told through James' journal, which escaped being blacklisted by the military, each entry allows individuals a glimpse into the real life of a soldier as they are taken through the major campaigns of WWII, James' mysterious death just two days before the final conflict at Magdeburg, his burial at Margraten and his love affairs.

An excerpt from the epilogue of "Looking after Larry":

"More than anything else in the whole wide World, Jimmy deserves to be awarded those 'Second Lieutenant' bars that he lost because of 'politics' at his Officer Candidate School of Fort Benning, GA. Also, I ask that the US Army should provide James Homer Hounshell a new tombstone which reads 'Lieutenant' instead of 'Private'."

It is Hays' hope that readers will be able to see what war is really like after reading his book. "War is hell," he says, "I want readers to feel that war is also a social event in between the fighting and shooting where beer, wine, women, sex and song play a strong role in keeping young men from going completely crazy."

Charles Hays obtained a bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctorate degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Kentucky. He also holds a minor in bioengineering and statistics from the same school. After serving in the army, Hays taught at the University of Kentucky, Texas A&M and the University of Houston.

He has numerous refereed papers, patents and publication as well as once being the editor-in-chief for the "Metallography". He has also consulted for numerous oil and gas companies around Houston and abroad. He resides in Pearland, Texas where he continues to write.
