SAN DIEGO, Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ Brandes Investment Partners, L.P., a 40-year-old asset manager specializing in global value investing strategies, announced today the release of Brandes on Value: The Independent Investor, by Charles H. Brandes, CFA, founder and chairman of Brandes Investment Partners, L.P.

Published by McGraw-Hill on Friday, November 28, Brandes on Value explores the origins of Mr. Brandes' career as well as why and how Graham-and-Dodd principles are critical for navigating the short-term thinking and volatility of the modern investing environment.

"To me, serious investors are those who have the confidence and patience to back their judgment by buying stocks that they are prepared to hold for five years or more if necessary," Brandes writes. "However, value investors do not focus on day-to-day oscillations. They adopt and maintain a disciplined approach to evaluating business value; they are confident in their research and analysis and patient in implementing their strategy."

The book begins with Mr. Brandes' life-changing encounter with the father of value investing, Benjamin Graham, in the early 1970s, just as the stock market began a multi-year descent. At the time, value investingwhich looks for undervalued companies that will flourish in different market cycles over the long termwas out of favor, but its fundamental, non-speculative approach to stock picking resonated well with Mr. Brandes "and I never looked back." Tracing his career through various booms and busts, including Black Monday, Japan's lost decades, and the Financial Crisis of 2008-2009, Mr. Brandes makes a case for why value investing remains just as relevant as it was when introduced by Graham in the 1930s.

Throughout the book, Mr. Brandes underscores that the pedigree of genuine value investingnamely, a global, long-term outlook that employs contrarian, independent thinkingremains true regardless of fluctuating market conditions.

Brandes on Value: The Independent Investor is Mr. Brandes' second book, following the well-received Value Investing Today (3 rd ed. 2003). The new book's release coincides with the firm's celebration of its 40 th anniversary.
