Charles Atencio shares his true story of searching for the American dream and his determination to succeed in his new book "My Dream, My Story, My Life" (published by AuthorHouse).
"I am an 80-year-old Latino American, born and raised in the U.S.," Atencio explains. "The story is centered around my parents and the many sacrifices they made to secure a better life for us. They are the true heroes portrayed in my book."
When his father passed away, Atencio took on many fatherly responsibilities for his brothers and sisters. He had hard choices to make and decided to join the Navy.
"It turned out to be the best decision in my life," he shares. "It provided me with the training which led to a successful career with the telephone company."
Atencio's autobiography touches on many topics - he writes about working the fields with captured German soldiers in Colorado during World War II, as well as his decision to join the Navy during the Korean War. He writes about his service as a communication electrician aboard the USS Princeton, an aircraft carrier, and rejoining the civilian world in the telephone industry, working 27 years between Pacific Telephone, AT&T longlines and U.S. West.
Atencio admits his story is not unique: "Millions of people have faced similar circumstances and will be able to identify with my story," he writes. "This true story is written for the average reader in a simple language that many American people can understand."
