"A Safe Place with You" is a LGBTQ fiction coming out story inspired by the horror true events of Conversion Therapy, an evil "medical" experiment to "cure" homosexuality. The pages follows a young man named Tomás Díaz and his group of new found friends forced to be in a clinic to "cure" their homosexuality as they try to find themselves during an era of heightened ignorance and hatred.
The book is a vehicle to create more awareness about this popular anti-gay practice. To speak out in public and to stand up for the LGBTQI human rights. After three years of rewriting, editing, polishing the English edition and getting more than 25 rejections letters from US publishers houses / literary agents, César L. Baquerizo published the English version worldwide on June 14, 2016 with the small boutique Pen Name Publishing.
Did you know that today in the United States, only 5 states: California, Oregon, Illinois, New Jersey, Vermont and Washington, D.C. ban the practice of conversion therapy to youth LGBTQI under 18? Which means that there is not protection law in 45 states where an estimated 77% of LGBT population lives according the research source from the Movement Advancement Project. It's very alarming important to let people know about the extreme and violent treatments in the Conversion Therapy. These include psychoanalysis, surgical, substance, and electroshock, which one of the side effects is a memory loss. True events that also happens in Ecuador and in some parts of the world. There are rumors that the U.S. Vice President elected Mike Pence support this dangerous and harmful psychological abuse. We must talk more about these awful and tragic issues, so we can save lives.
"I believe my book can be a positive achievement to let the youth LGBTQI around the globe that they aren't alone and we are aware of what they are going through," Baquerizo told BroadwayWorld. "That we are on their side and we are going to always fight for their rights. Also to spread the message that no matter the disability or special particularity you have, how different you identify and where you come from, breaking barriers and overcoming obstacles to pursue your dreams is all up to you."
Baquerizo's inspirations include Ellen DeGeneres, Harvey Milk, Alan Turing, Stonewall Inn Riots. Also activists: Jacob Rudolph, Zach Wahls, Shane Bitney Crone and Hudson Taylor.
