Kitty Felde, celebrated public radio journalist, founder/producer/host of Book Club for Kids podcast and playwright, is featured at two Author Talk/Book Signing events for Welcome to Washington, Fina Mendoza, her debut mystery novel for ages 7 to 12, on Saturday, March 30, 2:30 pm, at Children's Book World in West L.A., and Monday, April 1, 6 pm, at Vroman's in Pasadena. With more than a dozen Golden Mike Awards for her work covering baseball, high profile trials and reporting news stories from around the world, Felde was named "Journalist of the Year" three times by the LA Press Club and Society of Professional Journalists and hosted Southern California Public Radio KPCC's "Talk of the City" for nearly a decade. In 2015, she founded the award-winning "Book Club for Kids" podcast, named one of the "Top 10 Kidcasts in the World" by The Times of London. Her plays have been produced internationally.

But it was her half a dozen years covering Capitol Hill that inspired Felde to write Welcome to Washington, Fina Mendoza. The just-published mystery for kids, which goes behind the scenes in Congress, explores a legend that warns anyone who sees the Demon Cat of Capitol Hill will be cursed with bad luck. 10-year-old Fina Mendoza just saw it. And the last thing her family needs right now is more bad luck. The only way for Fina to save her loved ones - and herself -- from "cat"astrophe is to solve the mystery of the Demon Cat.

Welcome to Washington, Fina Mendoza, published by Black Rose Writing, has been praised by NPR's Susan Stamberg, who describes it as, "a marvelous introduction to the workings of government, and of a young lady of spunk and smarts." U.S. Congressman David Dreier calls it, "a fun read disguised as a book for grade schoolers, it gives keen insight into the everyday workings of the U. S. Capitol and its inhabitants." According to U.S. Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, it's, "a beautiful story told through the eyes of a gutsy Latina protagonist." And Ella Enchanted author Gail Carson Levine hails it as, "a patriotic and nonpartisan whodunit."

Both Author Talk/Book Signing events are open to the public at no charge. Children's Book World is located at 10580 1/2 W. Pico Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90064. Vroman's Bookstore is located at 695 E.
