KINGSTON, Ontario
Author Carole. E. Rogers shares memories of growing up into adulthood in post-World War II Britain, her professional experiences as a nurse and the people who have touched her life along the way in her new memoir, "Born to be a Nurse" (published by Trafford Publishing).
"Born to be a Nurse" takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster, following Rogers' childhood in England in the 1940s and describing the realities of growing up there post-WWII. She goes on to chronicle her life-changing medical training at the world-renowned Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Mixed with sadness and humor, this collection of memories gives readers insight into the postwar era and the rich experiences of a young nurse, wife and mother who was able to live her dreams, both professionally and personally.
An excerpt from "Born to be a Nurse":
"We were all glad to get out of the bus and stretch our legs in the fenced picnic area and were soon ready to enjoy the cook's prepared meal but it was not as trouble-free as we had hoped. No sooner had we got the food out and found somewhere to sit when the baboons arrived."
