Although many people turn to prayer in times of need, such as when a loved one is sick, Carla McDougal doesn't think that prayer should be employed only when a person has struggles or worries. McDougal, who founded Reflective Life Ministries to connect women like herself by sharing the message of Jesus Christ, acknowledges that it's easy to fall into a trap of feeling too busy to pray. Her book, My Prayer Chair, was written to dispel that notion.
People often feel as though their prayers must take place when there are no other distractions, but, then, they fall into the trap of never praying, because, in today's society, very few people find themselves with stretches of uninterrupted time. However, praying while engaging in other activities doesn't diminish the value of that prayer. McDougal encourages readers to enter into a constant conversation with the Lord, so that it becomes habitual. "Prayer can absolutely be worked into your everyday life, during chores or just before bed, and the frequency will strengthen your relationship to Jesus," she states.
McDougal also frequently speaks on devotion and Christian women's ministry to spread the messages in My Prayer Chair. Having cultivated her strong relationship to the Lord for years, she feels called to ministry to help guide others along the same path.
McDougal acknowledges that keeping in conversation with the Lord is simple, but it takes practice and dedication to build the habit. She adds, "You can't underestimate the power of continuous prayer to your individual relationship to both the Lord, and your loved ones."
