Callula Xu Releases New Poetry Collection

Few 9-year-old children can say they have published a book, let alone three books. Callula Xu, however, is an exception. Her new collection of poems and drawings, "Callula Xu Poetry" (published by Trafford Publishing), a divergence from her previous children's book, reveals the inner workings of her imagination for both children and adults to enjoy.

"Each person has a story to tell, and this can be counted as a collection of those stories," Xu says.

Xu's inspiration came from both everyday life and the dreams she had. Her free verse poems feature characters set in modern day as well as mythological worlds. The speakers are varied and colorful, ranging from animals to humans to even zombies. Xu's drawings will entertain young readers, while her poems will inspire imagination and wonder in readers of all ages.

"There was a cranky old miser,
Whom many compared to a toad,
Walking along the beach shore,
When he found the bottle.
He opened it, read the message,
And a smile came onto his face,
He put the cork back in, and threw it back."
