More than 500 schools across the country use No-Nonsense Nurturer to support educators with classroom management strategies and a pathway to forge life-altering relationships with their students. At its core, No-Nonsense Nurturer is a four-step model that helps educators create and deliver precise directions for their students. Educators are supported with strategies to positively narrate students who are on-task while leveraging classwide incentives and individual consequences to support students who get off track to re-engage. The result is a classroom where student engagement is high and transformative learning can take place. “Every Student, Every Day” gives educators concrete steps to form a necessary foundation for strong pedagogical practice.
Klei Borrero and CT3 co-founder Lee Canter codified No-Nonsense Nurturer by observing the teaching habits of highly effective educators across the country. Effective No-Nonsense Nurturers are no-nonsense in that they hold their students to high expectations but are also nurturing in giving their students care and support to be their best. No-Nonsense Nurturers challenge their own mindsets to ensure they believe that each student can achieve academic success regardless of their background or the struggles they may face outside of school. Educators need not have a foundation in No-Nonsense Nurturer to understand and use the strategies outlined in “Every Student, Every Day.”
“Never before have teachers been expected to do so much with so little training and support,” said Klei Borrero. Typically university-level teacher training programs do not thoroughly cover classroom management, cultural relevancy or teacher-student relationship building strategies. “‘Every Student, Every Day’ can help teachers make an immediate positive impact in their classrooms.”
Before leading CT3, Klei Borrero served as a classroom teacher, principal and area superintendent. She spent more than a decade leading turnaround initiatives for underperforming schools in Oakland and East Palo Alto, California. Under her supervision, Klei Borrero propelled schools to significantly exceed all state academic benchmarks, organizational fundraising and financial goals, teacher retention rates, and family and student satisfaction ratings.
Klei Borrero has served as an adjunct professor in Educational Leadership and Teacher Education at San Jose State University and the University of San Francisco, and guest lecturer at Stanford University on school reform, educating immigrant students and setting high academic standards in historically marginalized communities. She was also a national director for resources for Indispensable Schools and Educators and serves as the program committee chairperson for the board of Reading Partners. She received her Bachelor’s Degree at Miami University, her Masters of Education in Educational Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and earned her Doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of California, Berkeley.
