With more than 40 percent of college students experiencing above average stress levels, the pressure to succeed looms over these young adults.

"Coming Out of Cage" by E. Way, a self described Tiger Mom, talks about her attempt to steer her children toward success, yet shoving them into anxiety and overwhelming pressure.

"Coming Out of Cage" serves the dual purpose of narrative and instruction manual. By teaching through example, Way shows that even though parents just want what they believe is best for their children, this can sometimes cause greater levels of stress and anxiety for their children if parents are acting out of their own unresolved issues.

I witnessed my own daughter's post-traumatic stress disorder manifest after being admitted into her dream college," Way said. "This was such a painful experience for both of us, that I wanted to prevent this from happening to other families."

This book serves as a starting point for families to discuss concerns and issues openly with one another and to provide a kick-start to conversations about the expectations placed on children.

"I could not believe how much of the pain, pressure, distress and insecurity my daughter experienced actually stemmed from my parenting methods," Way said.

Through the work of counseling and religion, not only has Way found inner peace and acceptance, but also healing and reconciliation with her children.

By addressing issues of poor education structure and mental health misconceptions, Way demonstrates her determination to improve family conversations and society's perceptions of education, mental health and parenting.
