LUBBOCK, Texas -

The five stages of mourning and grief are universal and are experienced by people all around the world. After author Jerry Campbell experienced the loss of his wife, he realized the importance of discussing the mutual wishes with regard to death and circumstances often preceding death with those you love.

Campbell's new book, "Choosing to Live: Enduring the Loss of a Loved One," is a new guide for the stages of grief and grieving, written to help those who lose someone they love. Campbell knows death catches others unaware and disrupts the routine life, but he strongly believes they need to continue to work and continue with the routine, even as they grieve.

"I understand the importance of healthy relationships and mutual understandings of final wishes, along with end of life issues and care-DNRs, living wills and heroic efforts to preserve life," Campbell said. "But you need to be sure they know your wishes and you know theirs."

Campbell wants to help readers make the decision to continue living after a loved one dies, and to encourage them to move forward he has created a new strategy, a grieving calendar. He has created this calendar for those working their way through grief instead of turning to alcohol, drugs or other distractions.

The grief calendar compartmentalizes the griever's personal life and professional life, making room for both but preventing the personal from having undue impact on a professional career.

"I hope my grieving calendar will assist others who are struggling with a loss," Campbell said. "In the book I offer the viewpoint of what to expect during one's grief and how setting certain expectations immediately after a loss occurs can help one get through grief with a healthier outcome."
