Accomplished dancer Jamal Story, currently on tour with Cher and just off of Broadway's smash hit "Motown The Musical" has released a novel, "Toss in the Ether" with book-signings scheduled in cities along the icon's high-grossing "Dressed to Kill Tour."
The kick-off event is a Capezio-produced, in-store pop-up shop in New York on August 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 1650 Broadway, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10019.
Jamal, cousin of highest grossing black director Tim Story ("Think Like a Man"), has toured with Cher since her 2002 "Living Proof: the Farewell Tour." During this tour he penned his first book, 12:34, a collection of interconnected short stories taught in English classes at three universities, including California State University of Long Beach. While a dance captain in the original cast of "Motown The Musical" last year, Jamal finished Toss in the Ether.
Set in Dallas and along several cities, Toss in the Ether deals with a struggling non-profit dance company whose studio home is deteriorating. A fantastic performance of the controversially difficult titular ballet could mean capital from the city and a new building. But when a key dancer pushes her husband down the stairs, the company's troubles multiply.
In addition to Cher, Jamal has danced with Madonna on her "Drowned World Tour," on Broadway as a dance captain in the original cast of "The Color Purple," and in several companies including Complexions and Donald Byrd/the Group. He currently serves on the board of newly merged SAG-AFTRA as co-chair of the National Dance Committee.
