Author Chris Akin was burned over 69% of his body in an industrial accident 22 years ago when over seven tons of molten metal exploded. He has since become an entrepreneur, an author, a radio host and an effective "life coach" for those who are struggling with the day-to-day activities of life.
"I had gracious people give me their time when I was in ICU and recovery," Akin recalls. "They boosted me up, but most importantly, they let me know that I could regain "normalcy". They stood in front of me, scars exposed, and showed that it was possible to beat burns."
"Now I have the opportunity to give back and, hopefully, show some fellow survivors that all doesn't have to end because of their unfortunate circumstance. Life can not only continue, but be better, if you push to live the way you pushed to survive."
He wrote a book, CALL ME CHRIS, as a way of honoring the generosity, spirit and work of the MetroHealth Burn Unit.
"During my treatment at MetroHealth, my mom would come to visit and would say, 'I wish there was something to read to help me understand how to help you.' So I promised her then that I would make that happen some day. That promise and resolve was the impetus to write CALL ME CHRIS. I know people are sitting scared, confused, hopeless and in fear, in waiting rooms and burn units throughout the world, and sharing my journey might be the greatest thing I've done in my life. The book is already fulfilling its ultimate purpose."
CALL ME CHRIS (ISBN 97815239888389) is out now at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and most outlets where books are sold. An iTunes iBooks release of CALL ME CHRIS, with exclusive bonus material is slated for release in March.
