Set in the era of the Great Depression, "The Adventures of Jack and Jim" (published by Trafford Publishing) portrays a catastrophic period of time when people in America drew together in solidarity, neighbor helping neighbor. It is in this atmosphere that C. Gordon Thomas introduces his protagonists: Jack and Jim.

Two young, teenage boys, not fully aware of the calamitous environment in which they find themselves, Jack and Jim become immersed in a tangle of exciting and sometimes frightening adventures. Each chapter is based on a different, but real event from the author's life as the boys find ways to earn money for themselves and their parents and search for experiences and excitement.

"The Adventures of Jack and Jim" has a lesson for parents: the story illustrates how having freedom to make unregimented decisions during childhood can help develop integrity and mature young minds - but also that those decisions can lead to dangerous conclusions if left unchecked.

"It is important for parents to remember not to stand over their children and shut them down, but to gently guide them when they obviously need help or ask for it, also to reward them when the occasion arises," urges Thomas.
