In his new memoir "Paranoid Schizophrenia: My Label, My Life" (published by AuthorHouse), author Bruce Venter opens up about his life, including the frightening and difficult events surrounding his struggle with a serious mental illness.

"Paranoid Schizophrenia: My Label, My Life" traces the path of Venter's life experiences, from a happy childhood, to academic success, to his fateful diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia at 27 years of age. He goes into a detailed discussion about the disruption the diagnosis caused in his life, depicting the effect it had on himself, and his family. He also shares with readers his eventual breakthrough, as well as the culmination of his recovery in his late 50s.

"Paranoid Schizophrenia: My Label, My Life" is an important, confessional book for Venter, but he also hopes it has a significant impact on readers. "In today's society more and more people are being diagnosed with mental illness and despite many advances there remains strong stigma against these people," he says. "This book was written to lift the misunderstanding and stigma attached to all mental illness, especially paranoid schizophrenia."
