Early in 2015, the first print volumes of the English translation of the encyclopedia will become available and offered separately.
The Enzyklopädie der Neuzeit is considered an authoritative work on the political, social, economic, religious, and cultural history of the Early Modern Period (1450-1850). It has been received with great enthusiasm in the scholarly and popular press: "A work for eternity," Michael Naumann in Die Zeit.
"Since working on the New Pauly in 2001, the co-operation of the publishing houses Brill and J.B. Metzler has proven valuable for both parties. We are pleased that the online version and English translation will make the Enzyklopädie der Neuzeit accessible to a broad and international audience. We are hoping for a successful co-operation", says Volker Dabelstein, CEO of J.B. Metzler.
Sam Bruinsma, Brill's Vice President Business Development, adds: "The Enzyklopädie der Neuzeit is a fabulous work, unparalleled in size and scope: a 16-volume monument of 21st century scholarship. It is of utmost importance to put it online now to facilitate the work of all those interested in Early Modern History. And the English translation will bring this work within the easy reach of a global audience reaching far beyond German speaking academia."
