The Bright Kids NYC Stanford-Binet Preparation Guide was created in order to familiarize students and parents with the content and format of the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales, Fifth Edition (SB5). Students, no matter how bright, do not always perform well if they are unfamiliar with the format and structure of a standardized exam. They may misunderstand the concepts being tested, run into time-management issues, or fail to carefully consider all of the answer choices. Without adequate preparation, a student may not perform to the best of his or her ability on a standardized intelligence exam like the Stanford-Binet.
The Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales have been widely acknowledged to be "the standard for intelligence measurement" since 1916, when educational psychologist Lewis Terman completed an American revision of the Binet-Simon Intelligence Scale. The current edition of the assessment tool is the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales, Fifth Edition.
The Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scales, Fifth Edition comprises a battery of tests designed to measure cognition. Educators utilize this latest edition of the Stanford-Binet to detect the presence of learning disabilities as well as to determine degrees of giftedness. Evaluators can use the SB5 to predict learning disabilities in reading and math in children as young as four years old. The SB5 measures five factors of cognitive ability, including Fluid Reasoning, Knowledge, Quantitative Reasoning, Visual-Spatial Processing, and Working Memory.
Many private and public schools around the country use the Stanford-Binet as a criterion for entry into a variety of Gifted and Talented programs, including Manhattan's prestigious, tuition-free Hunter College Elementary School (HCES). The Bright Kids NYC Stanford-Binet Preparation Guide is a great way to familiarize students with the exam and give them the extra preparation required to succeed.
The preparation guide is a great addition to the Bright Kids NYC Stanford-Binet 1-on-1 Bootcamp. Stanford-Binet 1-on-1 Bootcamps are an all-inclusive tutoring program held at any of the three Bright Kids locations: Downtown, Upper West Side, and Upper East Side. Children receive an initial diagnostic, a package of 6 or 8 45-minute tutoring sessions, and three top-rated Stanford-Binet publications. These sessions can be scheduled Monday through Friday from 9:00am-6:00pm or Saturday/Sunday from 9:00am-2:00pm; however weekends are subject to availability. Every year, Bright Kids successfully prepares many students for the Stanford-Binet 5.
Most students will have to take numerous standardized exams throughout their school years. Many of these exams are designed to assess the same basic logic and reasoning abilities tested on the SB5. The best way for children to develop the critical-thinking skills needed to excel at these types of exams is for them to complete appropriately-styled activities and practice questions. The contents of this preparation guide and the Bootcamp may help students cultivate the tools necessary for success on the Stanford-Binet intelligence exam, as well as in all other areas of learning.
