The news travelled like fire. Metro Atlanta is now dealing with yet another serial murderer who targets children, this time preadolescent females at Georgia's Stone Mountain Park. Profile of a Killer, by Brent W. A. Henderson is a heart stopping and riveting suspense thriller serial murder. Readers will be left on the edge of their seats as this thrilling book is full of surprises with an unexpected turn and death-defying twist.
The story begins with the discovery of a young female found in a cove of Stone Mountain Lake. Soon after, two early adolescent girls disappear during the laser show while visiting the park. Then another young girl is found in a patch of bushes on the golf course at the mountain. Reed and O'Brian work with a task force investigating the murders. O'Brian develops a profile of the killer which narrows the investigation. While investigating the case both Reed and O'Brian have their own inner conflicts with which they must deal. A suspect is finally identified and the identity rocks both men, but they now begin working to prove this is the correct person. The investigation determines the killer not only has a past of killing girls but also a very tortured upbringing. The killer is a crafty, manipulative person and not unaware of the police task force working hard to catch him. To make things worse a copycat killer shows up and must be dealt with. Knowing the police and getting close the killer weaves a complicated trail as he flees the area. It is O'Brian who recognizes the real trail and he must convince Detective Reed, who has dispatched all his forces to the Atlanta airport, to change his course. What happens next is an exciting chase that leads Reed and O'Brian into the South Carolina scrub pine and palmetto swamps which are teaming with alligators, rattlesnakes and copperheads.
What follows is an exciting chase involving hostages and a good chance the killer will escape. The swamp is a dangerous place to try to find anyone. Does he get away? Readers will want to read on to see.
Profile of a Killer is an action-packed volume loaded with substance and filled with suspense. It is a powerful and gripping masterpiece that offers a fast-paced story that is both thrilling and entertaining.
