Brenda Michaels and Marsha Mercant, co-authors of the recently published book "The Gift of Cancer: A Miraculous Journey to Healing" (Skyhorse Publishing), announce their new found and developed mission to teach others how to embrace gratitude and heal emotional wounds. The authors created a movement to help others learn how to accept adversity as a gift through their work with Intentional Shift. The inspiration for the work they do through their company Intentional Shift (created with business partner Marla Williams) comes not only from their own experience but from countless others who have shared their difficult journeys with cancer, including TV personality, author and journalist Joan Lunden.
"My healing from cancer was so much more than just the physical process of recovery," says Brenda Michaels. "The emotional and spiritual shifts I made and lessons I learned have added so much value to my life. I truly believe that cancer saved my life and I have made it my mission to assist others in discovering their own gifts through adversity. Marsha and I are grateful to have the platforms through coaching, workshops, our radio and TV interviews, and my own radio show co-hosting Conscious Talk to be able to speak about the importance of turning life's traumas into life's treasures."
The focus, which Michaels and Mercant call "doing the work" is teaching others to uncover old emotional wounds, and heal from the inside. "Science has now proven that our bodies get sick, tired, or simply worn out when we carry toxic emotional wounds," Marsha Mercant explains. "We need to be diligent about our choices in relationships, our work, even the chatter that goes on in our heads. I know as an actress and writer, I choose projects that uplift me or give me the opportunity to learn lessons I might be able to share with others."
Not everyone needs to encounter a life-threatening disease as Brenda Michaels did. It took three diagnoses for her to wake up to the gifts inherent in her illness but she emphasizes, "My journey towards healing started with cancer, but anyone can start a healing journey at any time."
Joan Lunden has gone on to develop a web TV show called 'Alive' which inspires Michaels and Mercant with their own developing multi-media projects. "We are encouraged every day by the stories of people who turn their lives around after a traumatic event or difficult circumstance." Mercant explains. "Joan Lunden's bravery and mission to share her cancer experience so publicly is truly an inspiration. We are all in this together and together we can lift each other up to be the best versions of ourselves. That's a mission we can all get behind!"
