Brenda Michaels and Marsha Mercant, co-authors of The Gift of Cancer: A Miraculous Journey to Healing, Skyhorse Publishing, reveal their newest creation, Intentional Shift, a personal change movement and resource center. Intentional Shift empowers people to honor their unique gifts and talents, learn healthy boundaries, end toxic relationships, heal personal wounds from the inside out, and become fully immersed in living a heart centered life. Intentional Shift offers personal coaching, seminars, webinars, and a newsletter with blogs that teach these principles.
This personal empowerment vision was created out of very intimate and individual circumstances both authors experienced with cancer. For Brenda, cancer touched her life in the form of three separate diagnoses with the disease. For Marsha, cancer invaded her life when she lost her best friend of 45 years to Lymphoma. When Brenda and Marsha met, they soon realized the profound bond they shared could help not only their own healing but in the healing of others as well. This belief became the mission and genesis for Intentional Shift.
"I knew the lessons I had learned from my experiences with such an overwhelming threat to my wellbeing could help others live more heart centered lives," Brenda says. "It had certainly changed my life in so many positive ways. For one thing, I learned how to keep fear from controlling my decisions and choices. I know that is a huge issue for so many people, but I've learned to live more intentionally and honor my inner wisdom."
Marsha says, "When I lost my best friend to cancer, my world was turned upside down. It opened my heart in new expansive ways which changed all my relationships, most importantly the one with my Self."
Both agree the stores in the news lately about celebrities with cancer have a common denominator. "Valerie Harper, who is reported to have brain cancer, says she does not live in fear of dying but instead chooses to live every day in joy. Doctors report attitude is paramount in how patients respond to therapy. Rita Wilson got three opinions before choosing a doctor and treatment plan. Both of these women are examples of standing in their power, listening to their internal voice, and making personal choices about how they will respond to their circumstances," Brenda says. Marsha adds, "Taking that control is vital to healing. Through Intentional Shift, we want to help others find their voice and heal whatever adversity may be threatening their ability to live happy fulfilling lives."
