Set for a new marketing campaign, Emerson’s book titled “Preaching from Over the Hill: An Old Man Has His Say” (published by Xlibris in June 2017) is about the Christian ministry and how he did it for over 50 years. For him, ministry deals with people, issues, doctrine and scripture. While preaching, sometimes he gets it right and sometimes not so much. He considers the ministry as heartwarming and heartbreaking and the book talks about both.
The book also includes some short pieces that were attempts to summarize what Emerson wanted to say in a sermon or that he made up to fill up spaces in the monthly church newsletters. Some of the stories came from 65 or 75 years ago when he was a little kid. Some come from his 35 years in the parish ministry and some came from his 24 years of retirement.
“All of my stories are autobiographical in that they have become a part of how I understand my faith,” Emerson says. “Perhaps they will remind you of your own stories, the ones that inform and deepen your faith.” For more details about the book, please visit https://www.amazon.com/Preaching-Over-Hill-Old-Man/dp/1543422861.
