DESERT HOT SPRINGS, Calif.
Author Bobbie Portz was a very athletic woman until she fell victim to lower back pain in her mid-20s. The pain rendered her bedridden for a year. She says the experience pushed her to seek out solutions to living with her pain. In her book "Your Physical & Emotional Pain Doesn't Have to Be the Enemy" (published by Trafford Publishing), Portz defines what she calls the "language of pain" so that others may learn to turn their physical discomfort into a friend, rather than a foe.
This year, "Your Physical & Emotional Pain Doesn't Have to Be the Enemy" has been selected for inclusion in the Trafford Gold Seal program, which recognizes excellence in writing and overall potential.
Portz sheds light on the search for pain relief that often results in unanswered questions. She hopes to inspire readers to a deeper understanding of the language of pain so that they and their doctors will find a more informed road map to relief from its effects.
"The search for relief can often result in many tests and visits and attempts to cure pain; however, the results are often incomplete or wrong altogether, leading to a hamster-wheel type of agony," Portz says. "Each disappointment actually makes a person doubt his own pain, causing him to bury it deeper and deeper over the years."
Within Portz's book, readers can find ways to peel back forgotten or buried memories of injuries and emotional scars and answer the many persistent questions they may have about how to deal with and live with pain.
