TIGARD, Ore.
Stories from his boyhood, his teaching experiences, his living experiences in Pakistan and his travels in different countries all make up the bits and pieces of author Bob Christenson's "Sand, Sawdust, and Scotch" (published by Xlibris). After the warm response to his first book, Christenson decided to put together another one that will satisfy his previous readers' literary craving and attract new ones.
"Sand, Sawdust, and Scotch-A Life Loosely Based upon the Truth" is a collection of what Christenson calls "memory sketches," stories drawn from his very own life. These stories range from preteens discovering a body in a small Oregon town to the rescue of a monitor lizard in Pakistan. Sporting the "creative nonfiction" style in writing, he uses techniques of fiction to draw readers into the world of his stories.
A compilation that boasts clever dialogues, fun characterization, and a wide range of storylines, "Sand, Sawdust, and Scotch" is first and foremost an entertaining read. Secondly, it is a lively narrative of life experiences, guised as fiction, brimming with nuggets of wisdom readers can also tap into as they live out their own adventures in life.

About the Author
Bob Christenson grew up in a small Oregon timber town. By age 14, he worked in his family's sawmill. At age 16, he began employment with the U.S. Forest Service, a job he held for 10 years to help pay for college and augment his salary as a young English teacher. In 1964, he accepted a teaching position in Pakistan. Three years later, he returned to Oregon, hooked on international travel but certain he would never again live outside the Pacific Northwest. In 1993, Christenson retired from teaching. Today, he and Sue share a condominium with Tahnee and Baxter, two cats they rescued from a nearby shelter. They continue traveling the world. When at home, Christenson reads, writes and goes fishing whenever he needs a forest fix.
