Roberson writes that ethical and moral tenets — such as focus, humility, courage, respect, discipline, honesty, responsibility, and tolerance — and the spiritual acts of forgiveness, repentance, and trusting and obeying God’s Word, are all necessary to help identify and correct problem areas in one’s life in ways that are not only practical but “spiritually uplifting.” Bishop Roberson, however, also adds, “In order for them to work?…?you must fully embrace them and choose to obey their directives.”
Inspired by his firsthand experiences and spiritual awakening after a wrongful conviction that resulted in him spending years behind bars, piecing the principles of life together started when Roberson came face-to-face with the struggles of inmates suffering from various forms of addiction. He writes, “These unfortunate individuals were soon repeating the same mistakes when grim times crept into their lives and they could find no alternative coping mechanisms. They had no idea where to turn.”
After studying God’s Word and strengthening his own relationship with God, Roberson realized an important mission he wanted to fulfill — to help others find structure in their lives and live a life that is pleasing to God, which he outlines in The Principles of Life: Living in Victory. He writes, “If you are loyal to these principles and let them guide your steps, you will change for the good and you’ll be able to be trusted to do wonderful things for the Lord?…?these principles will work for you if you work them."
