That is until now. Two former writers and employees of the magazine missed it so much they have no brought the magazine. Jessica Pineda, former senior associate editor of the magazine, along with Patricia Sund, writer behind the popular Bird Talk column, "Memo to Parker and Pepper," are now at the helm of the magazine and are ready to take the bird world by storm.
Why bring this magazine? According to the 2017-2018 American Pet Products Association National Pet Owners Survey, there are 20.3 million birds in the United States and 7.9 million households that keep them. Yet there are few businesses that cater to this niche market and little-to-no major publications that specifically focus on pet birds.
"We just couldn't sit idly by and ignore the need for this publication any longer," Sund said. "The magazine was needed too. The internet provides a lot of good bird information, but it's interspersed with lousy information and is scattered all over the web. We wanted one source that consistently provided reliable information in a gorgeous new package."
The new magazine is produced bimonth, with its first issue the June/July 2018 edition already released. Bird owners have embraced the new magazine, and love the new style, look and content. The magazine is a massive 132 pages, covering the latest in avian health and care, bird behavior basics and a look at parrots in the wild.
"The new era of Bird Talk has begun," Pineda said, who takes the helm of the magazine as editor in chief. "We want to make this magazine a valuable resource for everyone - from bird owner to bird store owner to avian veterinarian - and continue Bird Talk's mission of providing better care for pet birds."
