Bird Announces Release of 'Why a Poem?' Image Bird writes poems because it is her only way to express herself without self-destruction. She writes to let go of her suffering and for others to know and feel it. She writes poems though she knows they will not make situations better or change things. However, she assures readers that her poems will baffle them.

"Why a Poem?" (published by Partridge Singapore) is Bird's book of poetry and essays that revolve around the journey of hurt and getting better. It has one chapter of love where it begins with wonder and ends with no real closure.

"Depression has become common yet no one speaks of it," the author says. "I wanted to publish the book to reach awareness. To tell people I understand how they feel and if they can't describe it, then I'll do it for them. I want to say it's okay to hurt and it's okay to talk about it. I want them to understand the complexity of healing and how pain can transfer to other people."

Bird is a passionate writer that has a desire to set fire to every heart that reads or listens. She likes to think that if she makes her audience feel uncomfortable then she is heading towards the right direction. It is her hard hitting topics that make her who she is. Not to mention her ability to speak of painful and sometimes unusual topics in ways that will make one question everything from one's eating habits to one's mental health.
