The Essence bestseller Strength of a Woman: The Phyllis Hyman Story, the authorized biography of the late singer who tragically took her own life in 1995, was re-released on October 16, 2018. The book, which is available in print through Amazon, was originally published in 2007 and slipped out of print after just a few years. Now, it will once again be published by the author, Jason A. Michael, on his independent JAM Books imprint.

Hyman's 20-year career included the release of eight albums as well as a Tony nomination and Theater World Award for her Broadway turn in Sophisticated Ladies. In the spotlight, Hyman's breathtaking voice and stunning beauty shone brightly. But off stage, after the applause and the laughter produced by her bawdy humor had faded, Hyman spent her days and nights engaged in an exhausting battle against bipolar disorder, addiction to drugs and alcohol, and the demands of being a female African-American entrepreneur in an industry controlled by white men.

"Once again I was unable to find a publisher to take a chance on Phyllis," Michael said. "But the important thing is the book is back. For long years now, I've been getting emails and messages through social media every week from people desperate to read the book. Finally, I can give the people what they've been asking for."

A rare find, the previous edition of Strength of a Woman regularly sells on Ebay and Amazon for over$100. The new edition of the book is much more moderately priced at just $19.95.

"People who don't understand the book was out of print blame me for the astronomical prices some resellers charge for the book," said Michael. "I try to get them to understand that it's not me and I don't see a penny of those ridiculous sums."

In addition to the trade paperback version, Strength of A Woman was released for the first time as aneBook. The cost of the eBook version is $12.95.
