LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif.
Author Bill Zuersher peels away centuries of privilege to reveal that the world's largest religion is arbitrary, man-made, already proven false, illogical, and immoral. His book, "Seeing through Christianity" (published by Xlibris), surveys and critiques Christian beliefs and the evidence for them.
An example from the book is the case of the Christian devil: According to Christianity, an omnipotent god created a multitude of angels, but some, led by Satan, rebelled. This has logical issues: Why would an all-powerful god need helpers? And also scriptural issues: there is no angelic opposition to Israel's god in the Old Testament. The book then points to historical evidence suggesting that the Christian devil was retrojected into the Old Testament by Jewish apocalypticists and later, Christians, after they had been influenced by the cosmic dualism of Zoroastrianism.
Grounded in scholarship, yet very readable, this book is aimed at skeptics, open-minded Christians and especially the undecided. Skeptics may arm themselves with specific arguments and also gain a deeper historical understanding of Christianity. Believers will develop insights into the skeptical point of view. For the undecided, this book is a primer on religious development and a feast at the table of critical thinking.
