BiblioBoard now offers over two thousand LGBTQ+ books from Riptide Publishing and Dreamspinner Press, including Dreamspinner's Young Adult imprint, Harmony Ink Press, and nearly 300 Dreamspinner books in Spanish, Italian, French and German. The collection, which contains over 100 finalists and recipients of the Rainbow Award, the Lambda Literary Award, the EPIC eBook Award and the CBC Rookie Award, is being sold with bulk discounts and tiered pricing in proportion to library size, putting the collection within the budget of any library.
"There is a huge demand for books that speak to the LGBTQ+ community," says Mitchell Davis, founder and Chief Business Officer of BiblioLabs. "We are very excited that these publishers are making the decision to sell comprehensive access to their books with no circulation constraints, wait lists or other impediments to the modern eBook experience expected by readers. BiblioBoard's LGBTQ+ catalog can easily and affordably expand any library's offering in a significant way."
Notably, the BiblioBoard LGBTQ+ catalog is not limited to romance and erotica. The partnering publishers offer a variety of genres, including sci-fi/fantasy, adventure, historical fiction, suspense and Western in addition to the more traditional genres.
Andrea LeClair, Riptide Publishing Marketing Coordinator, thinks this is key for engaging with readers. "Readers of LGBTQ+ fiction are diverse," notes LeClair, "and that extends to their reading habits. We're proud to offer library patrons a variety of genres for all types of reading tastes."
As for Dreamspinner, this is the first time their books will be available to libraries for full-catalog subscription. Tammy May, Operations Manager for Dreamspinner, says, "We are excited to expand our library offerings. The rise of digital reading has been huge for LGBTQ+ readers, particularly those who are still exploring their identity. Though they might feel uncomfortable or hesitant about taking out a physical book, the digital avenue takes away those social pressures."
In a recent article about Dreamspinner's Harmony Ink Press imprint, editor Anne Regan talks about the importance of libraries and their positive reaction to the work Dreamspinner is doing. "The reaction from librarians and teachers has been overwhelming. When we attended the Public Library Association conference this spring, everyone who stopped at our booth was asking about YA titles and was thrilled at how much we have available. Getting these books into school and public libraries is key, because not every teen has parents who will buy them for them or the kind of family where they'd feel comfortable bringing them home. Being able to find these books in libraries gives teens access no matter what their individual situation is like."
Riptide Publishing and Dreamspinner Press content will be available on BiblioBoard on the web and though award-winning native apps on Apple and Android tablet devices. Libraries interested in previewing the content can explore the catalog here.
