In "My Colonial Fiji" (published by Trafford Singapore), author Beverley M. Angus' new memoir, readers are taken to Fiji and shown its history, which is woven together with the author's life.

The book begins with a brief history of Fiji and how it came to be a British Crown Colony between 1874 and 1970. After readers are given this background, the book shifts and takes them into the sugar industry, which the author claims was the mainstay of Fiji's economy for over 100 years. From here, the author takes readers through her experiences growing up in Fiji culture. Through detailed accounts, readers are given a view of Fiji from a local's view.

An excerpt from "My Colonial Fiji":

"With much nostalgia I have described in the preceding pages, a wonderful and privileged lifestyle enjoyed by those of us living in the British Crown Colony on Fiji during the mid-twentieth century. It is a bygone era worth recording."

"I hope readers take away the magic that is Fiji," says the author. "I also want them to see the necessity of inter-racial tolerance and understanding from which springs mutual respect."
