A survey was just completed to determine what made Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard a fan favorite. While responses were many and varied, there were a few themes of note that repeatedly came up.

The top of the list of responses was how well written the story was and how readers couldn't put the book down once they started reading, regardless the number of times they read it.

•"Possibly the greatest Science Fiction novel of the 20th century."- G. Mark Pasqua
•"I have read this book 25 times since it came out. I've never read a book (novel) two times in my life. The best book ever." -Sandini Ruggieri
•"Best sci fi novel of all time I've read it 20 times. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. -Danny Milligan
•"I started reading it and I couldn't put it down until I finished." -Blanca Hammett
•"I read the book 3 times, damn good book." -John Crouch
•"I have read this book at least six times and every time it has made me cry. This is one of the greatest adventures you will ever read. It beats any movie." -Nelson Mendez
•"Battlefield Earth keeps me wanting more. I can never reread it too many times!" - Jonny Iffland
•"I've read hundreds, if not thousands, of books and short stories both within and outside the sci fi genre. This is still my all time favorite book. If you want some hard core, superbly written, true science fiction, put down what you think is a good book, settle back and get ready for a hell of a Windsplitter ride." -Roy D. Ridgeway
•"Careful when reading this book: it will be hard for you to eat, drink, sleep... because you will not want to put it down! It is much more than sci fi... It is a lesson on integrity, moral values, friendship, love and... banking. A fast paced adventure with humor, suspense, fights and mind boggling technology. I have read it many times and can assure you this: you will not be disappointed. -Gregory Rovira
The second category that came up was this book creating a love for reading.
•"I read this and the Mission Earth series to my girls in grade school one year and their comprehension scores went out the roof. The school contacted me asking what I had done. Great books, great author." -Chad Babcock
•"All three of my sons learned to love reading when I introduced them to this book."- Rick Smith
•"I read this and the Mission Earth series to my girls in grade school one year and their comprehension scores went out the roof. The school contacted me asking what I had done. Great books, great author." -Chad Babcock
A third category was how the story ranked with the other classic works of Science Fiction.
•"I love this Story...on the level of Dune and the Tolkien Universe."- John Landis
•"Loved this book but it cost me several nights of sleep. Great story, well written and inventive. My number two book after Lord of the Rings and just in front of Dune; number four was the Mission Earth Series by L. Ron Hubbard." -Raymond J Stinson
•"One of my all time favorite books. I think I finished it in less than a week...and it is a big book. Great story, keeps you wanting more. Along with Asimov, Bradbury and Burroughs, Hubbard's work from the golden age of Sci Fi is classic. A must read for anyone wanting a ripping good adventure." -Jay Taylor
