Barry Sankey Releases SEVEN CUTS OF WOOD on Work of Biographer's Art

Author Barry Sankey displays an enthralling sense of the simple workman's relationship with order and truth in the universe. His new book "Seven Cuts of Wood" is not mere autobiography, a re-telling of detail-it travels beyond, into the realm of Autobiography, populated by works that reflect the realness and immortality of human experience and binds readers intimately to the brilliant inner workings of an author's heart and soul. Sankey's book is composed of seven poems and ten scripts based around the life of a prodigal son (who is, in fact, the author of this book) and the outcome played out on the input of other people's life. It is an inversion which serves to make an almost minute self-inspection of real life into universal human drama. Sankey explains, in part, the purpose and specialness of his book from the opening section entitled "August 1956":

"Seven Cuts of Wood" is for the special people we are and how we need to understand the cycle of life at every level, from seed to root. My life situation made me like a woodcutter who had problems in seeking the right path. One only cuts down for the purpose of building up. This I learned by the woodcut, how to build in life's hardest of times. Cutting wood means being able to use the right tools and receive the right instruction. It's an honest labor in one's struggle to survive. Cutting wood is never an instant provider of success; you have to work at it. But it teaches patience, and doing so over time will aid in life's experience of personal deliverance."

The extended metaphor of wood serves Sankey's portrayal of growing up being hard, but useful. In this, he has found his own unique story of formation, of becoming human. It makes for transformational, inspirational and educational reading of a high order.

About the Author

Barry Sankey has been an active grassroots pioneer from the early years, working with the Maywood Park District as a liaison to attend village meetings as a teen. A member of the American Sport Education Program, the author was a volunteer coach in Maywood's kid wrestling and football programs in 1991-94. He worked with activists to start the Maywood CB Citizens Patrol and helped in organizing the Maywood Residents Council. He has also worked in school districts 88, 89, and 209 and was given a certification of recognition by the Key Club International in 1989. Mentoring kids from experience, he has taken a hands-on approach and believes in being an example. The author has lived and worked in Houston, Texas, and now resides in Fort Worth, Texas.
